Port Terminal — EV Storage Yard Monitoring

By Field Engineering · March 22, 2026 · 6 min read

A vehicle terminal operator extended the same sensor architecture from cargo decks to the storage yard, where pre-load EV inventory had no thermal monitoring at all.

The terminal operator had no thermal coverage on the pre-load yard, where EVs can sit for 3–14 days awaiting their sailing. A thermal event in the yard would only be detected by sight or smoke, and the closest CCTV operator was three terminals away.

Adaptation from shipboard

The yard deployment uses the same sensor cells and segment masters but mounted on relocatable lighting columns rather than deck members. Coverage is per-row rather than per-vehicle, with a slightly relaxed coherence threshold to account for wider column spacing.
