Fleet Rollout — 3-Vessel Bridge Console Standardisation
By Product — UX · November 20, 2025 · 5 min read
Standardising the bridge UX across three different operators with three different fleet generations. Not a sensor problem — a human-factors problem.
Three operators, three different bridge teams, three different fleet philosophies — and one common detection layer. The product question was whether the bridge UX could be standard across all three without retraining every crew, every voyage.
What we held constant
- Single trust state — green / amber / red — visible at a glance.
- Deck and bay coordinates as the alarm identifier, not VIN or sensor ID.
- A single physical silence-and-acknowledge control.
What we adapted per operator
- Mounting position on the bridge — driven by space, not preference.
- Audible alarm tone — matched to existing bridge alarm hierarchy.
- Shore dashboard access scope — different IT policies, different roles.
The standardisation worked because we standardised the trust state and the coordinate system, and adapted everything else. The opposite split fails.
